♬  A PRE-REQUISITE TO OWN OR RENT A PIANO PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT

As a strong believer in developing good habits and piano playing techniques in my students from early stage, I will not commence lessons until the student has a 88-keys piano at home

  • Parents must either own or rent a piano or weighted digital piano prior to commencement of lesson
  • A weighted digital piano for beginners is acceptable

♫  PARENT ATTENDANCE AT LESSON & SUPPORT AT HOME

Parental support and encouragement are an extremely important factor in musical training

  • Attendance of a parent at lesson time is compulsory
  • The parent is expected to attend lesson, take useful notes during lessons and to assist with home-practise. Children are rarely self-motivated nor independent
  • Parents are to establish daily practise routine and assist at home. Young beginners will require closer supervision
  • Parents to help pack piano bag and to ensure all books and materials are brought to lesson
  • Parents to ensure homework and assigned tasks are completed prior to the next lesson

In order for a student to progress well and enjoy competence, it is important that the three of us, Teacher-Parent-Student commit to our roles and work together as a team

The team is only as strong as the weakest link!

Most people are interested but not committed. Interested = do what's easiest. Committed = do what it takes

  PRACTISE

Recommended practise time for a beginner student is a minimum of 30 minutes each day, 6 days a week
Samantha Coates has written an excellent article on How Much Should My Child Practise ? Click link to read article https://blitzbooks.com/how-much-should-my-child-practice/

  EXAMINATION

This is optional. If you are interested in your child taking examinations, I recommend that your child complete examinations for both practical and written (theory), which will be held separately.

Candidates will be enrolled through the Australian Music Examination Board AMEB. Examination fees are determined by AMEB and are not included in the lesson fees.

If in my opinion, as the teacher, a student is not ready to sit for an examination, this opinion should be accepted by the parent.

Please note that:

  • I will decide if the student is, or is not, ready for an examination
  • I will organise exam enrolments matters when the student is ready
  • I will prepare the student for the examination and will inform parents of what is required for the exam
  • Parents must ensure the student revises and practices at home
  • I will notify parents of examination details such as date, time, venue and fees
  • Parents are responsible for taking the students to the examination venue.
